Morning wake-up sketch. I think I’d like to draw a Batman story.
Yoshitoshi (1839 - 1892)
Genzanmi Yorimasa Composing His Final Poem
Series; Yoshitoshi’s Courageous Warriors
Solemn portrait of the great warrior Genzanmi (Minamoto no) Yorimasa sitting down under a tree to compose a death poem prior to committing suicide. Yorimasa was perhaps best known for helping to kill the mythical nue, a fantastic creature that had been attacking the Imperial Palace and tormenting the emperor. He avoided politics for most of his life, but eventually became entangled within clan conflicts and led the Minamoto forces in the first battle of the Genpei War - the Battle of Uji in 1180. Despite his efforts, the Taira won the battle of Uji and seized the temple there. Yorimasa committed suicide by seppuku. His suicide was the first known instance of a samurai committing seppuku after a military defeat.
